Worker killed at subdivision is identified

A Grand Junction man who was killed in a construction accident Wednesday was identified Thursday as 21-year-old Daniel Cleveland.

The Mesa County Coroner’s Office ruled Cleveland’s death an accident and said preliminary toxicology reports indicate Cleveland did not have any alcohol or drugs in his system at the time of his death.

Cleveland, an employee of Grand Junction-based Haven Construction, was working in a trench at a new housing subdivision at 29 Road and Brodick Way when a section of 30-inch concrete pipe rolled into the ditch and crushed him. He died of multiple blunt-force injuries, the coroner said.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the accident.
