The Grand Junction opening of a national watercolor exhibit will be complemented by an artists’ workshop led by a well-known watercolor artist at The Art Center, 1803 N. Seventh St.

Judi Coffey of Cypress, Texas, a member of a number of art associations including the National Watercolor Society and the Rocky Mountain National Honor Society, will lead the workshop “Fusion — by Creative Layering” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, March 3–5.

The workshop will focus on the merging of different elements into a union, without drawing, but by working with different paints, hand-painted papers, found objects, stamps and more, and molding them with imagination and creativity.

The workshop costs $225 for society members or $255 for nonmembers. Call Virginia Blackstock at 872-2245 or e-mail .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) for information.

Also beginning Wednesday, March 3, will be the annual national watermedia exhibit, the Rockies West Show sponsored by the Western Colorado Watercolor Society. It will be on display through April 3.

The opening reception for the watercolor show will be March 5, also the date of The Art Center’s First Friday event and opening for “Skin Deep,” an exhibit featuring works from the center’s permanent collection plus pieces from nine invited artists. “Skin Deep” will be on display through April 3.

The First Friday evening will begin at 6:30 with an introduction of the artists and retiring Grand Junction Commission on Arts and Culture coordinator, Allison Sarmo. The reception will be from 7–9 p.m.
