Wortmann outpaces Chazen in campaign collections

Of the six Grand Junction City Council candidates running contested races, challenger Duke Wortmann has raised the most campaign contributions as of March 9, according to campaign filings with the Grand Junction City Clerk’s Office.

Wortmann, who is running in District D against incumbent Councilor Marty Chazen, has raised $11,806 in contributions. Chazen has raised a total of $7,885, which includes financial backing from all three Mesa County commissioners.

Candidate Jesse Daniels, who is running in District A, reported contributions of $1,604. Mayor Phyllis Norris’ re-election campaign has raised $8,720, more than five times Daniels’ campaign.

At-large City Councilor Rick Taggart has raised $4,960. Taggart’s challenger, Lincoln Pierce, is not collecting campaign donations.

This past week marked the first time that council candidates had to file campaign finance reports with the city.
