You Said It, May 26, 2013

While shopping at Walmart a lovely lady stepped up and paid for my groceries. I was shocked and pleased. I want to thank her and I will pay it forward and help someone else.

I have concerns regarding the article on feeding the crowd at Whitman Park. It is really nice that these people have been feeding the homeless at the park, but most, if not all, of them can afford alcohol and cigarettes, but they can’t afford food for themselves. Does anyone else think something’s wrong?

If you think White House aides knew of the IRS’s shady activities and did not inform the president, meaning that Obama did not know what was going on, then I have this bridge in Brooklyn you may be interested in buying.

Let me get this straight: President Obama assures us that the Justice Department, which in 2012 in order to head off any coming news stories which might hinder Obama’s re-election bid illegally accessed the Associated Press’s phone records, is the right governmental organization to investigate the IRS, which illegally suppressed and harassed conservative groups that might have hindered Obama’s re-election bid.

While we all love a good political fight, if I were forming a grassroots political organization I might be tempted to apply for nonprofit status under IRS Section 527 for political organizations. I guess it is much more fun to apply for nonprofit status under IRS Section 501(4)(c) for social organizations and then scream bloody murder when my political activities are questioned as a part of the application process.

I recently renewed my season tickets with the Grand Junction Symphony and found, much to my surprise, that next year, instead of having the tickets mailed to me, I now have to pick up my tickets for each show at the will call desk along with a thousand other people. It must be because they want to use the money for the Avalon instead of for postage to mail me my tickets.

I just wanted to say thank you to the wonderful family at Fiesta Guadalajara on Saturday night. I was having a wonderful time with my family until you showed up. Whatever happened to responsible parenting? Placing your kids at one end of the table with no supervision, really? I enjoyed the spitball that ended up on my table thanks to your kids. Thanks again for the wonderful meal.

Why would you build a beautiful new restaurant on the river and put the patio facing traffic and an ugly commercial building?

Many thanks to the honest individual who placed my debit card in the night deposit at the Clifton U.S. Bank after I absentmindedly left it in the ATM machine.

So ... we are asked to conserve water and we do that so that we are not charged extra for a few gallons more than we are allowed and help prevent a water shortage. How many gallons of water did Ute Water waste to sponsor the recent Children’s Water Festival?

To the thoughtful person at the Coronado Plaza City Market who turned in my prescription sunglasses May 21: Bless you. Kindness goes a long way.

Just to let everyone know: Grand Junction has an insane amount of talented musicians, and it genuinely makes me sick to see this paper only advertise bluegrass and jazz. There are more genres here, and we have a voice and shows that deserve recognition as well. Metal heads deserve paper time more than anyone else I’ve met.

Thank you to the concerned citizens, Mesa County Animal Services, Mesa County Sheriff’s Department, Lower Valley Fire Department and anyone else that helped get our horse out of the irrigation ditch on Mother’s Day while we were on vacation. You all worked together and saved her life. It’s really gratifying to know that kind and helpful people are such a large part of the bounty we enjoy in the Grand Valley.
