“Fruita Parks & Recreation Spring 2017 Adult Basketball League Champions — Fidelity Mortgage,” wrote Bree Hare, recreation supervisor for Fruita parks and recreation department. The championship game was May 3. This was the first season for this league and eight teams participated.



The winners of the 2017 American History Essay Contest are seventh-grader Levi Dormaier, left, eight-grader Aurora Richert, middle, and fifth-grader Laylah Casto. Not pictured is sixth-grader Haley Mazurek. All the students attend Gateway School. This contest is organized by the Mount Garfield Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and students were given the topic “Celebrating a Century: America’s National Parks.” Katey Kelly sent in this photo.

The Grand Junction High School academic team won the statewide PBS knowledge competition MatchWits in April.



“Fruita Parks & Recreation Spring 2017 Adult Volleyball League Champions — Mission: Unblockable,” wrote Bree Hare, recreation supervisor for Fruita parks and recreation department. Seven teams battled for the title on April 30 with this one coming out on top.
