America’s celebrating her 235th birthday on Monday, and you’re invited to the party. Please, no cards or gifts — just a heavy dose of patriotism and flag raising will do the trick.

The Redlands Lions Club installed new officers for 2011-12 at its regular meeting June 23 at the Redlands Community Center.
Past district governors Lance Balding of the Fruitvale Club and Walt Lemon of the Orchard Mesa Club conducted the ceremonies.
New officers are Chuck Stevenson, president; Jim Landis, first vice president; Cal Bilger, second vice president; Skip Hughes, third vice president; Burke Dailey, secretary; Joyce Stevenson, assistant secretary; Dave McLinay, treasurer; Chuck Harvey, tail twister; Ed Staats, lion tamer; Gary Heath, one-year director; Ron Drake, one-year director; Tom Kalenian, two-year director; Wayne Wells, two-year director; Bernita Dove, membership chairwoman; and Linda Cruz, past president.
Melvin Jones Awards were presented to members Don and Bernita Dove, a Humanitarian Award went to Dailey and the Anne Sullivan Award was presented to Paul Coe.
The club meets at 7 p.m. the second and fourth Thursday of each month except November and December.
National Society Colonia Dames XVII Century, Richard Gildersleeve Chapter, Western Slope Colorado, had its installation ceremony recently at the new Parachute Library in Parachute.
The new state president Susan Cameron presided over the installation. Members attended from Grand Junction, Montrose, Gunnison and Parachute, plus a member who had moved to Kansas and surprised the group by attending.

The Grand Junction High School class of 1981 30-year class reunion is July 29-31.
A golf tournament and mixer is July 29 at Bookcliff Country Club (sink a hole-in-one and win a car); the reunion is July 30 at Country Inn; and a family picnic is July 31 at Long’s Family Memorial Park.

The 30th class reunion of the Central High School class of 1981 is set for July 22-23.
An informal get-together will be at 6:30 p.m. July 22 at the Ale House on the patio, with a cash bar and dinner on your own. A semi-formal dinner and dance will be at 6:30 p.m. July 23 at Adobe Creek Golf Course.

RSVP will have its annual ice cream social at 12:30 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church, 3940 27 1/2 Road, featuring ice cream with toppings, entertainment and door prizes.

Grand Valley Blue Star Mothers will be at Old Navy from 1 to 5 p.m. today and Monday, participating in the store’s Patriot Days — Operation Care and Comfort. They will have an information table along with a collection box for monetary donations.
Anyone who donates will be given a 10 percent discount coupon for the store. There will also be Christmas cards available to sign for the “Christmas in July” boxes.
Also, on Thursday, Blue Star Mothers will host the Veterans Alley Welcome Home event, in conjunction with the Department of Veterans Affairs, during Farmers Market on Main Street.
Information and resources for military members and veterans will be available, as well as bling and magnets.
Military kids can dig in the “mine” (a pool with sawdust) for treasure (tokens for free kids meal at Texas Roadhouse).
