Grant for cancer palliative care given
Hospice and Palliative Care has been chosen as the recipient of a $40,000 grant to benefit its “Living with Cancer Program,” which provides support for cancer patients who are undergoing treatment and could benefit from palliative care. The grant is from the Caring for Colorado Foundation. The program is administered with the help of St. Mary’s Regional Cancer Center.
Stop smoking, get free workouts
Look no further if you need incentives to stop using tobacco. Three months of free membership at Crossroads Fitness, free yoga classes at Academy of Yoga and 10 free workouts at St. Mary’s Life Center are up for the taking for those who enroll in tobacco cessation “Freshstart” classes. The classes are offered through Mesa County Tobacco Education Council and St. Mary’s Hospital. Topics include understanding how tobacco affects the body and others, how to quit for the first few days and how to quit permanently. Classes are from 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 1, 8 and 15. Free blood pressure screens available
Anyone is welcome to get free blood pressure screens during some weekdays at area locations.
Clinics are as follows:
• First Mondays of the month, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Monterey Park Apartments, 999 Bookcliff Ave.
• First Thursdays of the month, 11:30 to noon at Clifton Community Hall, 126 Second St.
• Second Wednesdays of the month, 11 a.m. to noon, Senior Recreation Center, 550 Ouray Ave.
• Second Wednesdays of the month, 11 a.m. to noon, De Beque Senior Center, 580 Minter Ave.
• Third Mondays, 11 a.m. to noon, Grand View Apartments, 1501 North First St.
• Fourth Wednesdays, 10 to 11 a.m. Nellie Bechtel Gardens, 3032 N. 15th St.

Numerous flu shot clinics in Garfield Co.
The Garfield County Health Department is hosting numerous flu shot clinics. Vaccines are $20 for adults and $10 for children ages 6 months to 18 years. Cash or check only. Clinics are as follows:
• 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today in Glenwood Springs at the Community Center, 100 Wulfsohn Road.
• 9 a.m. to 3 p.m Oct. 6 in Glenwood Springs in the county commissioners meeting room, 108 Eighth St., and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Rifle at the Public Health Office, 195 W. 14th St.
• 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 7 in Glenwood Springs at the Public Health Office, 2401 Blake Ave., and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Rifle at the Public Health Office, 195 W. 14th St.
