As his wife, Kathy, guides him, Rusty Leech leaves his wheelchair behind in the entryway and walks, with the help of braces and a walker, across the couple's living room floor.
The recently acquired ability to feel his waist is one in a series of physical breakthroughs Rusty Leech has made in the months since The Daily Sentinel's December stories about him.

Rusty Leech wants to go to the bathroom on his own. Jordanne Menzies hasn't hugged her family or friends in nearly four years. She wants to, desperately, but she can't lift her arms. Improved quality of life has driven the paralyzed Grand Junction man and the Fruita woman to seek stem cell therapy to possibly help them regain some feeling and movement after a combined 13 years in wheelchairs.

Jordanne Menzies was driving home from a modeling interview in Denver four years ago, when she fell asleep and crashed her car near the Clifton exit off Interstate 70.
