With Christmas coming, I think that what the Salvation Army is doing for the more unfortunate in the Grand Valley, not only during the holidays but all year round, is a wonderful thing.
When are those people who keep complaining about the helicopter flying over them going to realize that they live in the flight path of the helicopter? Where else is the copter going to fly to get to St. Mary’s?
Two of our city council members refuse to accept a reduction in their pay. They have no problem with passing or supporting cuts to other city employees. They indicate they spend money from their own pockets. Most managers, leaders and teachers, I suspect, spend some of their own money in support of their business because it is the right thing to do. Can we impeach these two?
Do we look stupid? City Attorney John Shaver applied to the (state Public Utilities Commission) to double the 911 surcharge on phone users, but “I don’t want people to assume it’s a done deal.” Seriously, has the PUC ever quashed a rate increase? If Mr. Shaver feels obliged to justify the application, do so; but please don’t insult our intelligence.
What is wrong with this story? A 17-year-old boy spending the night with 15-year-old girlfriend and no one cares? And all along he has headed a major theft ring. No wonder kids go bad.
Don’t you just love it when Nancy Pelosi comes out and says, “At the end of the day, there will be a public option in the final health care bill to keep the insurance companies honest.” My question is, great, Nancy, now who is going to keep you and the rest of Congress honest?
In spite of the vociferous vocal vomit, let’s be reminded that Dick Cheney never wore a U.S. military uniform and spent considerable time and effort avoiding the military draft.
Some people are upset that the current administration doesn’t want to talk to Fox News. The Bush administration refused to talk to the New York Times and froze out reporter Helen Thomas at press conferences and wouldn’t take her questions. So what’s the difference?
To the writer that thought Fox News is really news, it’s not. It is a political mouthpiece for the Republican Party. Conversely, MSNBC presents a progressive stance on politics. The difference is that MSNBC admits it has a progressive bias. Meanwhile, Fox denies their Republican connection and still tries to claim itself as a news organization.
Can someone tell us why some inmates in the jail are getting the H1N1 shot when us law-abiding citizens can’t get one because they run out of the vaccine? I imagine some illegals are also getting some of the vaccine, too. Maybe it pays to be a law-breaker.
How convenient. The state requires employees to take a few furlough days a year to help the budget, yet the days that were chosen for furlough days were the Fridays before a three-day weekend. The four-day weekends, along with employees’ additional vacation days they add to the four-day weekend, actually immobilize the state government for far longer than the one furlough day.
I cannot believe how terrible the management is of the city leaf collection program. First, they take away the bagged leaf program that kept our streets much cleaner. Then they publish this elaborate area-by-area schedule that they claim they will use to suck up leaves. Trouble is, they never show up. Same thing each year. Now our cul-de-sac is buried completely in mountains of leaves with 3 inches of snow on top and no city leaf collection has happened at all. Get your act together, city.
Let me get this straight: We’re going to pass a health care plan written by a committee whose head says he doesn’t understand it, passed by a Congress that hasn’t read it but exempts themselves from it, signed by a president who also hasn’t read it, and who smokes, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn’t pay his taxes, overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that’s nearly broke. What possibly could go wrong?
