Work release escapee held

Fruita police arrested Amber Kay Henschel, 20, and Damien Michael Richards, 19, on Thursday after Richards escaped from Mesa County work release.

Officers arrested Henschel first. They said they saw her getting out of a car that turned out to be stolen from Richards’ grandmother and arrested Henschel while she was inside Walgreens. An officer saw a man whom police presumed to be Richards leave the car while Henschel was in the store. Officers arrested Richards outside City Market.

Henschel was booked on suspicion of theft by receiving, conspiracy, resisting arrest, being an accessory to crime and aiding an escapee. Richards was booked on suspicion of theft by receiving, conspiracy and aiding escape on a class four felony. Both appeared in court via video Friday.
