Boy, 17, faces adult charges in burglaries

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

One of three juveniles arrested last week when authorities busted a burglary ring will be prosecuted as an adult.

Mesa County District Judge Tom Deister on Tuesday granted prosecutors’ motion to transfer 17-year-old Wyatt Creamer, 223 Drumlin Circle, from the Division of Youth Corrections to the Mesa County Jail. He was being held there Wednesday on a $75,000 bond.

Deputy District Attorney Trish Mahre said Wednesday the District Attorney’s Office decided to charge Creamer as an adult based on the seriousness of the allegations and because Creamer was previously convicted of a felony charge. She did not have details about the prior felony charge.

Deister also ordered Creamer, should he post bail and be released from jail, to stay away from all School District 51 property and be monitored by a Global Positioning System. Mahre said she requested a restraining order for keeping Creamer off school district property because school resource officers had seen him on the campus of Fruita Monument High School, even though he was no longer a student there, and because he has been accused of stealing a number of firearms.

Creamer, 18-year-old Dustin Langdon, 16-year-old Todd Bahr and 15-year-old Kalia Thompson were arrested in connection with the burglaries of seven homes and garages and a shop inside a cemetery. The break-ins occurred between Sept. 24 and Oct. 14 on the Redlands and in northwest Grand Junction, Fruita and Loma, according to court records.

Mesa County sheriff’s investigators allege the suspects stole nearly $20,000 worth of firearms, ammunition, cash and other items. Several of the burglaries occurred while homeowners were asleep inside.

All four could face charges of second-degree burglary, theft, conspiracy and being an accessory to a felony crime, prosecutors said.

Creamer is scheduled to return to court Nov. 6.

Langdon, who is free on $10,000 bond, is scheduled to be formally charged today.

Bahr and Thompson have posted bail and will appear in court again Friday and Nov. 19, respectively.
