Joe Ramunno has been hired as the head football coach at Palisade High School, returning to the program he led to four consecutive state championships.
Ramunno replaces John Arledge, who was released from his coaching contract this winter.
Ramunno went 79-31 at Palisade in 10 seasons, 19-3 in the state playoffs, and won the 3A state title in 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997.

Grand Valley High School senior Cody Pfau was recognized by Sportswomen of Colorado as one of the state’s outstanding female athletes. Pfau is an accomplished wrestler who in February became the first female to win a first-round match at the high school state wrestling tournament. During her freshman year as a student at Meeker, Pfau and Soroco’s Lauryn Bruggink became the first girls to win a consolation match at state. Grand Valley wrestling coach Rick Gallegos said Pfau, who will wrestle at Oklahoma City University, won more than 90 matches during her high school career.
