Winged signs topped by a halo with the name of each of the victims of the Sandy Hook school shooting crown twenty six Christmas trees that are on display in the park at First Street and Grand Avenue. Each of the trees is decorated with lights, ribbons and bows.
Twenty-six Christmas stockings hang in a pine tree in the medium between Ute and Pitkin Aves at 15th Street, one for each of the persons killed in the Newtown, Conn. shootings. A sign under the tree says to please write a letter to the families and put them in the stockings.

The Highway 50 Christmas trees is decorated for Christmas in red, white and blue along with an American flag and a Santa. The tree is on the west side of Hwy 50 between mile markers 56 and 57. For years locals have decorated this and another tree in the area before that tree died.

Parks and Wildlife has a new seed storage facility, Escalante SWA, for holding native grass and other seeds used in regenerating growth in treated and burned areas. This quilt, named “Heidi"by Grace Cramer, is hanging in the Mesa County Central Library, 655 N. 1st Street. This quilt and more will be sold at auctionat 6 p.m. Thursday at The Center for Independence, 740 Gunnison Ave. as part of the Solidarity Not Charity fundraiser. Each quilt represents a homeless citizen who passed away living on the streets in the past few years.
