Firefighters from Lower Valley Fire Protection District and Grand Junction combine forces to extinguish a blaze that consumed a fifth wheel RV, a large metal barn and a power pole at 1138 Sundial Road around dawn this morning. Neighbor Mary Graves said that two loud explosions woke her up and when she looked out the window the RV was fully engulfed in flames. This morning’s fire was at the same site as a suspected arson fire three years ago.

A Red-tailed Hawk flies from a tree in the James M. Robb Colorado River State, Connected Lakes Section. The raptor can grow to more than 2 feet in length and can weight as much as 4 pounds, with a wingspan of 4 feet. Red-tailed Hawks will hunt snakes, turtles, frogs, lizards, ducks, bobwhite, crows, starlings and other birds.

A rock roughly the size of a Volkswagen crashed down into the westbound lane of traffic on Interstate 70 in Glenwood Canyon, slowing traffic in the area this morning. The Colorado Department of Transportation said the rock caused minor roadway damage and did not hit any vehicles.
