The Mesa County RSVP annual Volunteer Fair and Appreciation Event with a Hawaiian theme was March 26 at Two Rivers Convention Center. These four women are volunteers from the Grand Villa. They are, from left, Dori Wuggazer, Carolyn Gerhard, Ruth Phillips and Stella Melkus.
These women participated in a recent Women Build Event organized by the Habitat for Humanity of Mesa County sponsored by Lowe’s. Ashley, the future owner of the home the women worked on, sits in the wheelbarrow.
The Mesa County Commission issued a proclamation on May 10 honoring the “brave boys in blue,” the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. Garry Brewer, Danny Agajanian, Gary Parrott, Cecil Tapey and Bill Buvinger stand with a 1910 photo of their ancestors and the Mesa County Commissions proclamation.
These are the 2010 graduates of the master’s in business administration program at Mesa State College. In the front row are Troy Campbell, Ashlee Hafey, Erin Miller, Whitney Smythe-Smisth and Mariah Zerbe. Kretschman was named MBA student of the year. The program has graduated 133 people since 1999.
AJ Johann was looking at cars at the 2010 Moab car show when a guy jumped out of his chair and asked AJ if he would like to start this ‘78 Trans Am. “Well yeah!” AJ said. “AJ had a smile on his face the rest of the day,” wrote Steve Johann about his youngest son.

Bill Grant tills his garden plot at the Grand Junction Community Garden near Mesa County Libraries’ Central Library. Information on gardening classes will be posted on a bulletin board at the community garden, wrote Lee Gelatt, who submitted this photo.
“After having breakfast at the new Dream Cafe, we took a walk downtown with our two-and-a-half-year old granddaughter, Sailor Kersey. She saw the frog and wanted to kiss it,” wrote Susan Kersey.
“Our grandson loves his Pops tractor. He climbs up there all by himself,” wrote Michelle Boudreaux and 1-1/2-year-old Gage Brewer. To Gage, Dave Bourdreaux is Pops and Michelle in Mimi.
The Counseling and Education Center’s Spring Swing dance and silent auction fundraiser was April 24 at the Elks Lodge. Shown here are dance instructors from La Puerta Dance Studio on the dance floor at Spring Swing. Money raised at Spring Swing underwrites the center’s counseling services, which are provided to anyone regardless of income. The center is at 2708 Patterson Road.
Casey Grinolds, a student at Morgan Community College, is completing her collision repair internship with Moore Auto Body in Grand Junction. Grinolds won the body refinishing competition at the state SkillsUSA meet at Warren Tech in Denver and will go to the national competition in Kansas City in June.
This photo was taken of the cast of “Pirates of Penzance” produced by the Grand Junction Parks and Recreation and Pocketful of Plays. The play was performed April 23-24 at the Lincoln Park Barn.

Landmark Baptist Church had a tent meeting in April at its future home, 1600 Ute Ave. Along with church services, there was a picnic, pony rides and Bump’n'Jump for the kids. The church’s current location is 2711 Unaweep Ave.
