Yikes! Abominable snowman! “Here is a recent photo of that elusive snowman,” wrote Elaine McSheehy, who took this photo. “He appeared in our backyard the morning of January 12th and seemed to be very happy with the current weather conditions. Not everyone is upset with the cold temperatures!”
The Hirsch and Pipkin families spent a post-Christmas afternoon sledding on the new snow on a hill below the Hirschs’ Cedaredge home. Chris Pipkin took these photos. This photo is of Alex and Tori Hirsch.

Kurt Neuswanger took this photo on Oct. 2 at Mohave Point overlooking the Grand Canyon’s south rim. “The rim of the Grand Canyon is at 7,000 feet, with unobstructed view of the horizon. I had joined a group of tourists who stayed at Mohave Point to view the canyon at sunset. Afterwards, as we waited for the final shuttle bus, the sunset progressed into this stunning tapestry of color and texture, created by haze and jet trails in the western sky,” Neuswanger wrote.

Local musician Lynn Sampson did three performances in Paris in October. He played at the La Nuit Blanche Art and Music Festival and at a sidewalk cafe.

The Mesa County Medical Alliance presented a $4,300 donation to John Mok-Lamme, executive director of The House, on Dec. 21. The funds were raised by the society during a charity auction at its holiday party. The House provides shelter for homeless teens in Mesa County. The “History of Palisade — 2012 Revision” is now available at Mesa County Libraries’ Palisade Branch. Members of the groups whose information was included in the revision gathered on Dec. 8 to present it to the library.
