At the Grand Junction Gem and Mineral Club’s Feb. 28 meeting, Bill Hood introduced the club’s three scholarship recipients for 2013. The Recipients are Marisa Boraas, Alex Asay and Anna Dunn and each received $500.

Kurt Neuswanger took this photo of Horseshoe Bend on the Colorado River near Page, Ariz., at sunrise on Oct. 6. “The overlook is 1,000 feet above the river, about 4 miles below Glen Canyon Dam, and a few miles above the official start of the Grand Canyon,” Neuswanger wrote with his photo submission. This photo was “stitched together from 25 frames at 35mm focal length, f4.5 @ 1/10, with a Canon EOS Rebel T1i.”

Sharon Bradshaw, who took this photo titled “Time to Hunt,” was named the Thunder Mountain Camera Club Photographer of the Year 2012 at the club’s annual banquet on Jan. 19. This is the second year in a row Bradshaw has received the award, known as the Hans Kunz Memorial and awarded to the photographer who scored the most points during bi-monthly competitions. “Time to Hunt” received the Roy Clark Memorial for Best Color Print and second place in Level 2 (Advanced) Color Print category. The Thunder Mountain Camera Club meets at 7 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of each month at River of Life Alliance Church, 701 24 1/2 Road, and visitors are welcome.

“Clouds Over Cold Shivers Point” by Jamie Zartman was awarded the Al Ligrani Memorial for Best Projected Image. It also placed second in the Level 1 (Beginner) Color Projected Images category.
“African Crane” by Sharon Bradshaw received the Ansel Adams Memorial for Best Black & White Print and first place in the Black and White Prints category.
“Moon at Sunset” by Ona Griffiths took first place in the Level 2 (Advanced Color Prints category.
“Bumblebee Flying” by Donna Fullerton took the first place in the Level 2 (Advanced) Color Projected Images category.
“Webinar” by Kyle Beaver was the first place winner in the Level 1 (Beginner/Intermediate) Color Prints category.
Fred Jones, second from left, was given the Citizen of the Year Award by the Kiwanis Club of Grand Junction at the club’s annual Charter Dinner on Feb. 7. Jeanie Thomas was honored with the BOBS Award at the Kiwanis Club of Grand Junction’s Feb. 7 Charter Dinner. The BOBS Award recognizes the contributions of a club member. Thomas is the longtime pianist for the club.
