Turning food grain into gasoline is about the most stupid thing this country has done in a long time. The only greening happening from this is the bank accounts of OPEC. What a deal. We are financing our own takeover as they buy our nation with the funds we provide, and it’s all so that we can feel good about ourselves.
Convicted felons are given a meal of fresh wheat bread, cheese, fresh vegetables, powdered milk and other goodies — terrible. Give them the best. Give them “C” rations. Many of Grand Junction’s own and finest, those who served in the 167th Infantry Regiment, ate a lot of “C” rations. Because of that fine food, the 167th liberated Southern France and liberated Dachau. The rebellious felons deserve no less. Give them “C” rations.
Every five minutes, a person dies in an accident. The National Safety Council calls accidental deaths “a silent epidemic,” rising at an alarming rate — more than 20 percent over 10 years — reaching 113,000 fatalities. This statistic does not include heart disease, cancer, stroke and chronic lower respiratory disease, the four top killers. Compared to 4,000 deaths in five years in one of the most turbulent regions of the world, one wonders who’s really in the war zone.
It is a sad reflection on us humans that wars have been because of money, land, religion, disagreement, mental illness and anger. Now we are into yet another war that drains our country dry and kills and maims thousands. For what? If the world really felt a need to war against injustice, someone would have been helping with Darfur, South Africa, Bosnia and all the other places that are ignored because they are not money-makers or a personal concern. War is big business. If we really want to seriously protect ourselves, then bring the soldiers all here to our borders, which no doubt would help with the immigration concern, too.
Neighbors, I am letting you know now that the next time I am walking, running or riding a bike and your dog leaves your yard to chase me, bark at me or show aggression toward me, I will Mace it.
Any casualty in war is tragic. But remember they are all volunteers. Where were all of you during Vietnam where we had more than 58,000 casualties, and most were draftees? Where were you during Korea where we had more than 100,000 casualties, and most were draftees (and we are still there)?
Shame on you. Mesa County. For those who support JUCO, why don’t you support Mesa State baseball? They deserve it so much and are a local team. They are so much fun to watch and play better baseball than JUCO teams.
I was amazed when a local TV station “weatherman” tried to explain the term for moisture falling from a cloud that evaporates before reaching the ground. He called it “vega.” I once owned a Chevy Vega. The term is “virga.” I would hope he never competes against a fifth-grader because he’s not smarter than a fifth-grader.
