You Said It, April 13, 2008

Saturday, April 12, 2008

Many thanks to St. Mary’s for getting a new helicopter that doesn’t shake and rattle our homes and apartments all hours of the night. Also, thanks to those pilots that vary their departure and approach plans so they don’t always go over our homes on Bookcliff Avenue.

Ute Water raised its rates for commercial water consumption to discourage using domestic water for irrigation purposes, yet the city planning department still demands excessive landscaping for new development. Talk about restraint of trade.

We paid a lot of money for the Seventh and Main roundabout, but now we’ll have to pay again to fix it after last winter’s ice capades.

My family has lived in this valley for five generations. We have always burned our ditches and fields. The Utes burned before we were here. If you can’t stand us natives and hicks, go back to where you came from.

Girls, girls, girls, what good comes from having children out of wedlock? What good comes from sleeping around with men who have criminal records? What is so darn appealing about a lifestyle that ends in being shot and killed in front of your children? Don’t be a fool.  You deserve way better.

City of Parachute, what’s up with all the “no truck parking” signs? You would think with all the money the oil field brings into your town there would be a nice place to park trucks.

Okay “hobby farmers,” go ahead, burn your fields.  If you had enough acreage to actually earn a living, you would never consider this, because of the risk of catching the entire county on fire. I do agree, fire is the most economic way of cleaning irrigation ditches, but not fields.  Think about your neighbors breathing the smoke.  Obtain the equipment to perform your farming task properly.

Doesn’t anyone remember what happened to Laci Peterson? A bill was passed for those who murder pregnant women (to) pay the price not only for the loss of the mother, but the baby.

What a shame to lose a historic landmark like the Dewey Bridge. When I heard the story, I had some questions. First of all, why was a 7-year-old playing with matches by a river, and where did he get them? My biggest question, though, was where were the parents?

Again, a few parents are unhappy about the way a coach is doing his job. If the parents know so much, why aren’t they the coach? Have the parents ever stopped to think maybe some of the problems they are having with the coach go back to the way the kids perform and act when mommy and daddy are not around? Maybe it is time the parents grow up with their children. Let the coaches do their job.

Mesa Animal Services should be called a dog pound, since they don’t do anything when it comes to the cat problem in Mesa County.  I know people that have to trap cats themselves and dispose of them since their neighbors think they need 10 cats.

I’m going to borrow the trap when they’re done since my neighbors leave their cats out all night as well.
