You Said It, May 4, 2008

Saturday, May 03, 2008

I would like to thank the wonderful staff of St. Mary’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for the great reunion. My son was in there for two weeks after he was born and received great care. It was good to see the caring staff again away from the hospital. Thank you also for including siblings of the babies. My children really enjoyed it. I was glad to hear that you are planning it as an annual thing. Keep up the good work and caring, and know there are people out here that do appreciate all your hard work.

I hope we get the civic arena that Reed Mitchell is working on. Some people don’t want growth, but it will come; (it) already has. Instead of fighting it, let’s move forward and provide services and events. They will give people here meaningful things to do instead of going to the local bar.

I want to thank a teacher for being there for my grandchild. If we could only see down the road a few years and see that what we have done did make a difference. Thank you for working with Dreams For Kids and seeing that my grandchild received a new violin of her own.

A solution to the affordable housing crisis: As I don’t golf or live near a golf course, I suggest turning all the elitist, water-consuming golf courses in the valley into FEMA trailer parks.

Congratulations to the Fruita Monument High School Class of 2008. I always love to see the seniors’ pride and paint on Redlands Parkway each spring when they paint their year and Wildcat paws across the lanes.

With the increase is asthma and allergies, probably from our self-created environment, burning ditches is becoming a touchy subject.  Maybe we need controls and logical thinking, such as only burning a spot where the wind is blowing away from the population base. I do foresee Grand Junction joining the Front Range on emissions controls for burning and vehicles.

I am a sportsman and an avid hunter. I often hunt prairie dogs for sport. I am frustrated that people who don’t understand the sport and tradition of hunting are trying to take my rights from me. If they take our right to hunt prairie dogs, what are they going to take next?  Shall I plan on not being able to take my kids hunting and fishing because some people decided to post a video on the Internet?

I can understand the lack of interest in hiring immigrants. In general, they don’t try to learn our language, which is still English the last I heard. We don’t trust someone who is talking a foreign language behind our backs, be it in the field, or in the store. If they truly want to live here, learn our language.

The BLM is the worst landlord I’ve ever seen. It’s bad enough that our public land and wildlife are being ruined by more roads and gas rigs. Now they want us to pay $10 to camp in on our own public land. Can’t you use the millions from gas, oil and cattle leases to pay your salary?
