You Said It, Oct. 18, 2009

Sunday, October 18, 2009

I suppose if Scott McInnis becomes the next governor, Colorado will become the new state of McInnis.

Unions are no longer necessary in this country. I’m speaking of the talk of King Soopers and Safeway workers going on strike. Why should they be able to write their own rules on the job? I appreciate all the grocery store workers, but they ought to be glad they have a job instead of complaining about the benefits, etc. I don’t usually cross picket lines, but I sure will if they go on strike while they’re demanding more in this present economy.

Now that the county has to slash its budget, the first place to save some dollars is to cut the $70,000 salaries of the county commissioners, which is just a part-time job. But you and I know that will never happen — just like those in Congress reducing their salaries.

President Obama wins the Nobel Peace Prize. A local resident calls it a travesty. Does she not know he won because of the hope he brings to our nation?

President Obama receives the Nobel Peace Prize for jet- setting around the world speaking out on human rights, Mideast peace, etc. I’ve sent countless letters, e-mails and faxes around the world to senators, foreign leaders, presidents and newspaper editors, and cards of encouragement to prisoners of conscience. So, where’s my Nobel Peace Prize?

Hey, Charlie Rangel, I could use some help filing my taxes next year. Could I enlist your help? ... wink, wink wink.

This writer has never been a supporter of any of the various governmental stimulus plans. However, we hear that there is stimulus money for education. Where can it be found? Where is the transparency? How much is it? How does it affect Colorado? One stimulus rumor had the federal government pushing school for 2-year-olds. How silly. Families take another blow.

For those senior citizens who don’t believe in a government-run health system, give up your Medicare. I’m 63 (pre-Medicare) and was greeted with a 25 percent annual increase Jan. 1, 2010, with Anthem health insurance. Incredible profits and salaries to insurance companies, pharmaceuticals, hospitals and doctors are to blame. Bring on the government.

Every time I see a DOW TV ad I think of the phrase, “You haven’t accomplished much if you have to talk about it.” Have you heard the latest of the Division of Wildlife’s no-brainers? They have finally admitted that the lakers have destroyed the fishing in Blue Mesa, as in many other impoundments that they were so stupidly stocked.

Rush Limbaugh said regarding the news of our president receiving the Nobel Peace Prize: “I’m on the same side as the Taliban — he does not deserve the award.” What? He’s on the same side as the terrorists? And Rush calls himself a patriotic American? How can you listen to Rush and feel good about being an American?

The city and its manager need to think about the long-term consequences of their flights of fancy. The trees and bushes for the parkway cost a mere $1.3 million. But they forget that the cost of water, labor to maintain, replacement trees and weekly care will go on for years. It was not a one-time purchase.
