We are a reasonably healthy couple in our mid-70s. At Lowe’s, we bought some lumber including some 12-foot 2-by-4s. We were getting ready to load the lumber in our truck when two young men from Bud’s Signs asked if we needed help, and they proceeded to load our truck for us. We thank them very much. While giving out thanks, we would like to acknowledge very kind employees at Village Inn, Dos Hombres, Los Reyes, Chili’s, Home Depot, Lowe’s and Wal-Mart.
I read that the Obama White House has decided to boycott Fox News and is even critical of Fox News because the company tries to make a profit. Wow. Trying to control the media, plus opposing capitalism. Maybe Obama really is a socialist.
So the Seventh Street Historic District wants no one changing from single-family residence zoning. In the district now: two churches, one parking lot, four historic homes converted into apartments, several mother-in-law residences on alleys, one day care, which occupies three of the homes — and that’s all between Hill Street and Grand Avenue. Only the “grandfathered” are allowed to make money from their property. How hypocritical.
What is the city thinking? They have no revenue, cut employees’ wages, have them take days off, no money for a police station, yet they are spending millions on the Tiara Rado Golf Course. They are tearing up the back, rearranging it all, doing the same on the front. Where is the outrage?
On one day the paper states how much money the county will have to reduce budgets in order to meet the loss of dollars because of the downturn in the economy. A few days later, the county announces that they are spending a minimum of $2.5 million for an intersection in Molina. No one has died at the intersection. Gas exploration has stopped. So why the expenditure? There surely are intersections in Mesa County that get more traffic and are much more dangerous. So who has the right of way at this intersection? The moose, then the elk, then the deer. They seem to have it figured out.
In Colorado, automobile liability insurance is required by law. Twenty percent of automobile drivers still do not carry insurance, and many drop coverage after they renew their auto license plates. The state does not even police the offenders. Can you imagine if they mandate national health insurance, how many will still not pay for it?
The Budget Committee and the governor keep cutting needed services and raising fees, but why don’t they cut the tourism funding? It receives some $20 million which the people of Colorado said no to years ago. There are a lot more of these funding areas that could be eliminated or cut.
My Mesa County Colorado (vehicle) registration/ ownership taxes for 2008/2009 were $24.52. The same taxes for 2009/2010 are $57.87. The difference in those amounts is $33.35. The card mailed with my new receipt indicates that the SB09-108 Registration Fee Increase should be $32. That is a difference of $1.35. Who is getting this latter amount and why?
No matter how cold it gets, if you don’t believe in man-made global warming, you’re stupid. No matter how high the unemployment rate goes, if you don’t believe the stimulus is working, you’ve been misled. No matter how much the Congressional Budget Office says health care will cost, if you don’t believe the president that it will be revenue-neutral, you’re a racist. The only way to have a civil debate is to silence all the stupid, uninformed racists. It is easy to understand why the left admires leaders such as Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez. They know how to silence their critics.
