YOU SAID IT!

You Said It, Nov. 15, 2009
After a week of global cooling followed by a week of global warming, cant we all agree that warm weather is better? If we are going to spend lots of money on climate change, how about a climate closer to Hawaii than the Arctic?

With Christmas coming, I think that what the Salvation Army is doing for the more unfortunate in the Grand Valley, not only during the holidays but all year round, is a wonderful thing.

Many thanks to REI for the government school donation. (Because of) the insurmountable debt being passed on to future generations, theyll be living in those tents.

I suppose if Scott McInnis becomes the next governor, Colorado will become the new state of McInnis.

We are not fast food junkies and have only been in Chick-fil-A once or twice, but the article in Fridays paper was one of the best. How many chain stores pass out freebies at every event in town? How many chain stores emphasize the higher ground by closing on Sunday, and how many chain stores are not fearful of sharing their beliefs in the way they run their business? Apparently Chick-fil-A has been able to balance the needs of the customers and still remain faithful to their beliefs. I might add that Hobby Lobby, another chain store also follows these principles, and neither store seems to be suffering from a loss of customers.

Wish we had neat artwork at the roundabouts in the valley like they do in Silt. They would be much more fun to drive through.

In these difficult times, does it make sense to spend $9 million to destroy our perfectly lovely Main Street? The main reason is to force people to use the new, expensive parking garage on Rood. Why not lower the prices to park? Older people cannot walk this far to shop.

Fruita, nice going on your upcoming community rec center. Fruita youth are lucky, for sure. It will keep them busy in positive ways, instead of wondering what negative thing there is to do next. Grand Junction, stop shaming yourself spending millions on eye candy. Do something positive for our kids.

Heres a list of government programs: Postal Service, started 234 years ago; Social Security, 74 years ago; Fannie Mae, 71 years ago; War on Poverty, 45 years ago; Medicare/Medicaid, 44 years ago; Freddie Mac, 39 years ago. All of them are either broke or going broke and have never paid for themselves. Do we really want to pour trillions of dollars into a monstrous health care reform that wont reform anything and will cost us more taxes?

Kudos to the city of Fruita for making a valiant effort to maintain Enoch Lake as a free camping site and control the damage and trashiness caused by that minor fraction of the public. A formidable task at best. I just spent a week up there and witnessed what can only be described as the hillbilly approach with an ATV attitude to respecting the obvious intent of the city to control erosion and contamination to their water supply. This same group will also torpedo your plans to build hiking and biking trails. The public needs to be educated on the difference between rights and privileges.
