4 others in congressional race, two as write-ins

Tisha Casida

Gregory Gilman

Jamie McMillan

Democrat Sal Pace and Republican Scott Tipton aren’t the only two people vying for the right to represent voters in the 3rd Congressional District.

There are four other candidates in the race.

Of them, the one who has gotten the most attention around the district of those four is Pueblo native Tisha Casida.

Although the 30-year-old Casida is running as an unaffiliated candidate, she’s a longtime supporter of U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, a Texas Republican and darling of the tea-party movement.

Her platform is similar to what a lot of Republicans and Libertarians advocate: a free marketplace, lower taxes and less government spending.

One of her opponents, Libertarian Gregory Gilman, advocates some of the same things.

Like other Libertarians, this 50-year-old Westcliffe resident, who ran for the same seat in 2010, also believes in individual freedoms as long as they don’t infringe on other people’s freedoms.

That means he also supports legalizing such drugs as marijuana and same-sex marriages.

The two other people in the race are write-in candidates, and both are listed as unaffiliated.

They are Jamie McMillan of Durango and Morgan West of Arvada. West doesn’t live in the district, which includes the San Luis Valley and most of the Western Slope, but state law doesn’t require that.
