Action shooting event channels the old West
If you have an interest in old West shooting, and own a pair of hefty ear plugs, this weekend is for you.
The Thunder Mountain Shootists are hosting the 2011 Single Action Shooting Society Colorado State Cowboy Action Shooting Championship (try to say it all in one breath) Thursday through Sunday in Whitewater.
More than 150 competitors are expected, with some coming from as far as Australia, for the action at the William Jarvis Shooting Complex.
Cowboy Action Shooting (it’s a trademarked name) puts as much emphasis on dressing authentically, finding a catchy handle and using appropriate firearms as it does on punching targets and stopping bad guys.
Everything takes place in a setting straight out of western movies.
It’s free, it’s exciting and it’s loud.
