Adults with no children could qualify for Medicaid
Mesa County adults who have no children and whose monthly income falls below 10 percent of the federal poverty level can apply now to enter a lottery for health care coverage.
State Medicaid officials expect to place as many as 1,704 residents of 22 Western Slope counties into the Adults Without Dependent Children Medicaid program. Statewide, 10,000 people are to be enrolled in the new program after being selected by lottery if there are more than 10,000 applicants.
The program offers coverage to childless adults, ages 19 to 64, whose monthly income is at or below 10 percent of the federal poverty level, or about $90 per person, $125 per couple, and are ineligible for any other form of Medicaid or Medicare.
Applicants who aren’t selected for coverage will be placed on a waiting list.
If there are more than 10,000 applicants statewide for the program, the state will conduct a lottery in mid-May.
