Authorities mum on suicide try by inmate
An inmate who reportedly attempted suicide Wednesday morning at the Mesa County Jail was expected to be back at the facility within the day after receiving medical treatment, Mesa County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Heather Benjamin said.
The inmate suffered a self-inflicted injury and was transported alive to a local hospital, Benjamin said.
Benjamin did not respond to a series of other questions.
Just before 9 a.m., an ambulance was called to the jail on a report of a man who cut a wrist and was “bleeding badly,” according to radio reports.
The man was described as “alert and talking” when he was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital.
