Automatic recount looks likely in Maes-McInnis governor race

An automatic recount is required in the race for governor, or any other race, if the margin of victory for a candidate is less than 0.5 percent of the vote total, Secretary of State Bernie Buescher said.

If the margin is between O.5 percent and 1 percent, the losing candidate can request a recall.

As of 9:52 p.m., Maes led McInnis 169,935 to 168,918 — a margin within the recount trigger at .3 percent of the total vote. (74% reporting)
