Mission Accomplished

By Lynn Lickers | Monday, Nov. 10, 8:42 a.m.

Let me first say that I am looking forward to the day when I regain full function of my body from the waist down.

I’m thinking that’s not going to happen today, and maybe not even tomorrow. If anyone has a walker they’re not using, I’d be happy to rent it.

Honestly, I’m still floating around in this sea of “I did it, I really did it!” and “I should have/could have/would have done better.” Those are my issues. I’ll spare you from them here.

When all is said and done, I’m one of only 165 people in the whole galaxy who were fortunate enough to run 22.6 miles up and over Colorado National Monument. I set my own record. My goals were to finish under my own power, finish within the allotted 5-hour time limit and not be last. I accomplished all of that, albeit barely!

The rest of the story is more complicated than that, of course, because being a woman, it has to be. But I’ll give you all the glorious and gory details at a later date.

Right now, I want to thank everybody who offered me their support, congratulations, best wishes, love and concern. There are so many of you out there, and I have no words to tell you how gratifying and soul-satisfying it was to know all of that was out there for me.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, and my aching feet, for being there with me, and for me, along the way!

Runner’s Toiletries

By Lynn Lickers | Friday, Nov. 7,  9:08 a.m.

It occurred to me this morning as I looked at my bathroom vanity counter top just how much running had taken over my life.

Where there used to be pretty bottles of sweet smelling tropical passion fruit lotion, vanilla lavender body spray, lemon verbena body butter and gardenia-scented bath salts, there now sat a large jar of Sore-No-More, a tin of Tiger balm, a box of arnica tablets (homeopathic joint and tissue repair), a seven-day pill container of Celebrex, an elastic knee brace and a small bottle of Tylenol.
