BLM extends period for comments on North Fork drilling
People who wish to comment on the Bureau of Land Management’s study of about 30,000 acres in the North Fork Valley for natural gas drilling have an extra two weeks to submit comments.
The comment period was to end Friday, but the bureau extended the deadline to April 20. The lease sale is scheduled in August.
The BLM is considering leasing 22 parcels near Paonia, Hotchkiss, Somerset and Crawford for natural gas drilling. Comment should refer to specific parcels and the associated resources on the parcel.
Sen. Mark Udall, D-Colo, sought an extension of the comment period, citing difficulties some people reported with submitting comments to a BLM database.
Links to documents, maps and legal descriptions can be found at http://www.blm.gov. The information also is available for public review at the Montrose Public Lands Center, 2465 S. Townsend Ave.
Comments may be submitted to the BLM database at http://on.doi.gov/UFOAugustLeaseSale. An Internet Explorer browser is required to submit comments in that manner.
Comments may be submitted by mail to BLM, Uncompahgre Field Office, 2465 S. Townsend Ave., Montrose 81401.
People who wish to withhold their names or email or street addresses from public view or from disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act must state so prominently at the beginning of the written comment.
