Funny money passed
Crime Stoppers is seeking the public’s help in identifying a man who is alleged to have tried to use a counterfeit $100 bill at the Mesa Mall food court on Jan. 19.
The man is described as black, about 6 feet tall with a slender build, and is likely between the ages of 25 and 40 years old. Anyone with information that leads to an arrest can earn up to $1,000 in cash by reporting the identity or location of the person involved in the crime. Sexually violent offender
Grand Junction police are notifying the community about a sexually violent predator, Chad Wesley Heiden, who has moved into Community Corrections at 650 South Ave.
Police are meeting state law by providing information about Heiden and have also mailed bulletins to immediate neighbors. A 20-minute presentation appeared on Mesa County Cable Channel 12 on Thursday. That presentation can be viewed on the department’s website at http://www.gjcity.org.
Heiden was most recently convicted in 2000 of felony third-degree sex assault and second-degree assault.
According to the Grand Junction Police Department:
■ Several juveniles are suspected of committing burglary and vandalism in the 500 block of Rockaway Avenue on Thursday.
■ Someone caused damage to a vehicle parked in the 2800 block of Acrin Avenue on Sunday, causing a loss of more than $1,000.
■ Someone unlawfully removed property valued at less than $1,000 from a residence in the 1400 block of North 24th Street on Sunday.
■ Christopher Garcia was arrested and released on a summons on suspicion of shoplifting at Walmart, 2881 North Ave., on Monday.
■ Someone unlawfully entered a business at 2484 Commerce Blvd. on Saturday, causing damage valued at less than $100 and removed property valued at more than $1,000.
■ Someone caused damage of more than $1,000 on Thursday at a property located in the 500 block of 25 1/2 Road.
■ Someone removed items and caused a loss of less than $500 from a vehicle parked at 1100 North Ave. on Jan. 31.
■ A sex assault on a child was reported in the southeast side of the city on Tuesday.
According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department:
■ Charlene Waters, 31, was arrested on an outstanding warrant while visiting the Mesa County Justice Center on Wednesday.
■ Nathan Lemarr, 37, was arrested Wednesday, accused of first-degree aggravated motor vehicle theft, criminal possession of a financial transaction device, tampering with evidence and criminal impersonation.
According to the Montrose County Sheriff’s Department:
■ A burglary occurred Thursday in the 16200 block of Chipeta Road.
■ Joseph R. Jenner, 24, is accused of domestic violence, menacing, stalking, criminal mischief and second-degree burglary.
According to the Montrose Police Department:
■ Heather Mercilliott was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of shoplifting in the 600 block of North Ninth Street.
