Briefs: OA “Knight, Death, and the Devil” October 10, 2008

Learn about German artist Albrecht Durer through a film being shown as part of The Art Center’s Second Saturday events.

“Albrecht Durer: Image of a Master” is about 21 minutes long and “examines the life and work of the peerless painter and printmaker, focusing on some of his most important pieces,” according to

Durer lived from 1471 to 1528.  Durer “revolutionized printmaking, elevating it to the level of an independent art form,” according to an article by Jacob Wisse at The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Web site,

Religious subjects are often found in Durer work, which includes “The Apocalypse,” “Knight, Death, and the Devil” and “Saint Jerome in His Study.”

The film will be shown at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at The Art Center, 1803 N. Seventh St. The film follows a gallery tour at noon. Second Saturday is free to center members, and a $3 donation is suggested for nonmembers.
