Candidate to audition before school board

School District 51 Assistant Superintendent Steve Schultz will get a public audition Monday before the board that identified him as the only finalist to take over as superintendent.

Beginning at 10 a.m., Schultz will get up to a half hour to show the board where he intends to lead the district. He will then answer questions from the board at the Basil T. Knight Staff Development Center, 2523 Patterson Road.

Schultz would replace Superintendent Tim Mills, who is resigning at the end of the school year.

Although the interview is public, the board didn’t decide immediately whether Schultz would field questions from the public during the session, which will run until noon, board President Leslie Kiesler said.

The board announced the public interview during its business meeting Tuesday, soon after the end of the period in which people could offer comments to the board by e-mail.

Schultz, who has worked for the district since 1982, has been a teacher, principal and administrator in charge of elementary schools.

He has served as the assistant superintendent since 2004.

Mills is leaving after six years to head the North Clackamas School District in Milwaukie, Ore.
