Chasing a national title

The Colorado Mesa University women’s basketball team opens play today in the NCAA Division II South Central Region tournament against Midwestern State.
It’s a rematch of the 2013 regional championship game that the Mavericks won to reach the Elite Eight for the first time in school history.
In only two years at the helm, Coach Taylor Wagner already has two tournament appearances. The team, which only lost one game all season, is led by senior guard Sharaya Selsor, the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference player of the year, and the the team’s leading scorer.
Three wins in Canyon, Texas, will get them back to the Elite Eight, but team members have higher aspirations. After last year’s success, they’ve set their sights on a national championship.
Good luck, Mavs. We’re pulling for you.
