Child porn suspect’s hearing delayed

A Grand Junction man arrested on suspicion of possessing thousands of child pornography pictures has received a week’s delay before arraignment in federal court, said Jeffrey Dorschner, spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The hearing for Michael John Morrow is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday in federal court in Denver, Dorschner said.

Morrow, 63, was hired as a teacher’s aide at Grand Mesa Middle School Oct. 7. He resigned from his job at School District 51 Oct. 28, the day he was arrested.

Morrow worked as a sports department copy editor for The Daily Sentinel from May 2007 to February of this year.

He more recently wrote sports columns for The Grand Junction Free Press, but he was not an employee there and wasn’t paid for his contributions, Managing Editor Josh Nichols said.

If convicted, Morrow faces the possibility of 10 years in federal prison and up to $250,000 in fines.
