Colo. Army National Guard to build new $11M center

GRAND JUNCTION — The Colorado Army National Guard is breaking ground on its newest community-based Readiness Center.

Gov. Bill Ritter plans to be on hand for the groundbreaking today in Grand Junction. The center will house Company C, one of five companies of the new 1st Battalion, 157th Light Infantry, as well as the 947th Engineer Company.

Construction of the $11 million, 35,000-square-foot building is expected to start in September and be completed by December 2011.

The unit will have more than 800 community-based soldiers.
