Community to celebrate MLK Day at Mesa State
A community-wide celebration in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. will take place at 6:30 p.m. tonight in the ballroom at The Student Center.
Guest speakers will include Josephine Dickey, Harry Butler, Steven Enos-Martinez and MSC President, Tim Foster. They will discuss the past, present and future of civil rights.
Entertainment will include a Michael Jackson impersonation by Jesse Bradford, vocals by Katie Walters and hymns performed by the Grand Valley Unitarian Universalist Congregation Choir.
“This year is going to be more spectacular than ever,” said Mathias Mata, vice president of the MSC Black Student Alliance. “With it being in the new student center and the ballroom — it’s going to be really wonderful tonight.”
The annual event was organized by the MSC Black Student Alliance, MSC AmeriCorps Project, MSC Student Senate, MSC Cultural Diversity Board, and Grand Valley Interfaith Network.
The groups are asking for donations of pajamas, books and personal care items to be given to Homeward Bound. The MSC Black Student Alliance will also be hosting a silent auction to support their club.
The event is free and welcomes both students and community members of all races.
