Council delays action on Pitts
The Grand Junction City Council postponed a decision Wednesday night on whether to boot Planning Commission member Bill Pitts off the board. The council put the matter on hold because Pitts is out of town.
Pitts, who has served on the Planning Commission for five years, came under scrutiny this past summer because he wrote a letter to city planners that opposed an assisted living center being built near his house.
Pitts did not vote on whether to change the zoning for the land at 815 26 1/2 Road, nor did he attend the Planning Commission meeting when the zoning change was considered. A 2006 city resolution prohibits planning commissioners from attempting to influence any decision-maker if a conflict of interest exists.
The council scheduled a hearing about Pitts for Oct. 15.
