County to take Clifton couple to court over junk
Mesa County will take legal action against a Clifton couple for failing to remove junk and unregistered vehicles from their property despite complaints from neighbors that date back seven years.
County commissioners unanimously agreed this morning to pursue a misdemeanor criminal case against Greg and Rhonda Bohte, who live at 542 Verano St., for violating the county’s land-development code. The code allows one unregistered vehicle per home in residential zone districts but otherwise forbids residential property owners from operating junkyards or keeping junk.
Tony Piotrowski, county code-enforcement officer, told commissioners he’s fielded five complaints from neighbors about unregistered vehicles, automobile parts, junk and trash on the Bohtes’ property in the last year and a half. He noted that neighbors’ complaints about the Bohtes actually date back to 2003.
The Bohtes didn’t attend this morning’s hearing.
