County to lease space from hospital for medical clinic
Mesa County commissioners unanimously approved an agreement Monday to lease space from Community Hospital for the county’s soon-to-open employee medical clinic.
The county will pay the hospital nearly $17,500 to lease space and equipment in a 1,076-square-foot office at 1060 Orchard Ave.
The office will be used by Novia CareClinics LLC, an Indiana-based company the county retained to provide medical services, lab work and prescription drugs for the 1,300 county employees and family members enrolled in the county’s optional health plan.
The contract covers the cost of operating the office through the end of next year.
County spokeswoman Jessica Peterson said the clinic should open by the middle of next month, although an exact date hasn’t been determined.
Because of rising health plan costs, commissioners in June gave the go-ahead for the county to open its own clinic. County officials estimate the clinic will save $335,000 in health plan expenses next year.
Local health care providers objected to the county-run clinic, fearing it will discourage employees from seeing their primary care physicians.
They also asked commissioners to consider contracting with a local provider rather than an out-of-state one.
Acting County Administrator Stefani Conley told commissioners the lease will cost the county about $4,000 less than initial projections.
In other business, commissioners authorized a $251,253 contract with Mountain Valley Contracting to rebuild a narrow, winding section of F 1/4 Road near Palisade.
