County wins award for its budget draft and reporting
For almost two decades, Mesa County’s budget drafters have received national recognition.
This year is no exception. Mesa County won two national awards for financial reporting and for budget presentation. The county won these awards, respectively, 18 and 17 years in a row.
During a brief ceremony on Monday, the awards were presented to Marcia Arnhold, finance director.
The first award, the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, comes from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. For half of the 18 years Mesa County has received this award, Arnhold has been the county’s finance director.
The second award, which the county has won 17 years in a row, also comes from the Government Finance Officers Association. It is the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.
“Only a small percentage of public sector organizations win this award,” Mesa County Administrator Jon Peacock was quoted as saying in the release. “Mesa County wins it consistently. In my opinion, this comes about because of a highly qualified and dedicated county finance staff.”
