D51 executive takes superintendent job in Grandby

District 51 Executive Director of Academic Achievement Jody Mimmack will become the superintendent of East Grand School District this summer.

Mimmack, who has spent the last 13 of her 25 years in education at District 51, will finish out the 2012-13 school year at District 51 and begin her new job July 1.

She said she has appreciated her time in the Grand Valley but is looking forward to “a new adventure.”

“District 51 has been a great place for me to have all three of my kids go through school and graduate high school. I’m really appreciative of the jobs I’ve had here and the support I have received,” she said.

East Grand has 1,245 students and is the 62nd-largest district in the state, according to a fall 2012 count by the Colorado Department of Education.

The district serves schools in Granby and Fraser.

Mimmack said 36 people applied for the East Grand superintendent position. Four were asked to interview and three went through with an interview for the post.

Besides Mimmack, other candidates to interview for the job were a Board Of Cooperative Education Services director in Lamar and an assistant superintendent from Thompson School District in Loveland.

Mimmack said she applied for superintendent positions in a few places before getting the East Grand job. Last spring, she applied for superintendent jobs in Cortez and Durango.

In the past, she has worked at schools in Montana and Englewood. Her most recent in-school position was principal of Fruita Monument High School before she began working for District 51’s central administration in the instruction and curriculum department at the end of 2010.
