Delta hospital seeks applicants for new CEO
DELTA — Delta County Memorial Hospital is seeking applicants for the position of chief executive officer after current administrator and CEO Tom Mingen announced he will retire at the beginning of next year.
Mingen became the hospital’s CEO in early 2002 after serving on the hospital’s board of directors. Before serving on the board, Mingen already was retired after nearly 29 years of service as a hospital administrator for Lutheran Health Care.
“I got a little bored with retirement, so I applied for the board and was selected, then about three months later the CEO left. I resigned to throw my hat in for consideration,” Mingen said.
Mingen, a native of Hotchkiss, said his 2012 retirement will complete 10 years of service as the hospital’s CEO.
“I’m going to be 63. I want to hike, bike and ski,” Mingen said with a laugh. “I need to be able to do those things while I still physically can.”
Mingen said he has been fortunate and is proud to have worked with a staff that continues to provide the highest quality health care to the residents of the Delta area.
Mingen is a resident of Paonia and said he has no intention of relocating after his retirement.
“I plan on staying in Delta County for the rest of my life,” he said.
According to a job posting online, CEO candidates must have at least a bachelor’s degree in health care management, business administration or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
The ad says the applicant must have at least three years of experience in acute care and have worked in a hospital within the past five years as a CEO, chief clinical officer or chief financial officer.
Applications must be completed online at http://www.deltahospital.org or by contacting the hospital’s human resources department at 970-874-6406.
