District 51 Academic Options Fair is Wednesday
More than 200 people attended School District 51’s first Academic Options Fair last year.
District 51 Director of Academic Options Ron Roybal hopes to attract just as many or more people to the second-annual fair, which will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in Bookcliff Middle School’s cafeteria.
Twenty-three schools and programs will have booths for parents and students to peruse at the fair. Academic options programs such as Grande River Virtual Academy and district charter schools will be there, as well as a non-district homeschool program, Western Colorado Community College, Collbran Job Corps and some traditional schools with special programs, such as East Middle School’s honors program and Central High School’s engineering class.
“It’s really a rare opportunity for someone to go in and see most of the schools represented in District 51,” Roybal said. “It’s a great one-stop opportunity for people.”
Roybal said parents often call him and ask what program would work for their student. He decided the district should host a fair beginning last year in order to allow families to compare numerous programs at once and decide what is best for them.
Like last year, the fair will have giveaways, prizes and food. For more information, call the district’s Academic Options Office at 254-5497.
