Doctor facing allegations surrenders license
A longtime Grand Junction doctor who was being investigated by the state on allegations that he initiated inappropriate sexual contact with several patients has agreed with the state to relinquish his medical license.
The medical license of Dr. Louis Bair, an osteopathic physician, has been suspended with conditions since Jan. 21 by the Colorado State Board of Medical Examiners. The board aids the Colorado Attorney General’s Office in reviewing complaints against physicians and can place stipulations or revoke physicians’ licenses to practice in the state.
When the allegations arose, Bair was one of the dozen members on that board that reviews cases of alleged physician misconduct.
Bair’s medical license was revoked Aug. 20, according to state documents.
Bair did not return a call for comment for this story.
Four of six patient complaints were from women who were employees as well as patients of Bair at Desert Sun Medical Center, 573 32 Road, and Community Hospital, 2021 N. 12th St.
Bair had privileges to practice at Desert Sun from 1993 to November 2008 and had privileges from 1991 to February 2009 at Community Hospital, according to the complaint filed with the Attorney General’s Office.
Community Hospital said Bair never held a supervisory position over employees at the hospital, and his privileges were suspended there immediately after Bair’s license was suspended in January.
Bair also practiced at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction and Grand River Hospital and Medical Center in Rifle, starting in 2006, according to state records.
Complaints from patients date back to incidents starting in 2005. One patient alleged Bair sent her multiple sexually explicit text messages after conducting a gynecological exam. Bair was accused of molesting a patient during an exam and having sex with another patient. Patients said he viewed pornography at work and took another patient on vacations.
Mesa County Sheriff Stan Hilkey said his department is investigating the allegations against Bair.
