Downtown bagel shop’s sidewalk seating available

Construction crews put the finishing touches on the new sidewalk outside Main Street Bagels Thursday morning.

After several months of construction and just in time for warmer spring temperatures, Main Street Bagels’ outdoor seating area will be available this weekend.

Co-owner Mark Smith said construction crews told him he could place outdoor tables on the west side of the building on 6th Street by Friday afternoon. “It needs just a little time to cure,” Smith said of the new sidewalk concrete.

Crews had to buff out several footprints and a name scratched into the green concrete Wednesday night. “They said that’s the first time that happened,” Smith said.

Smith plans on having tables in front of the store within the next two weeks. The popular fountain, which was removed and cleaned, will be reinstalled.

Customers will have a front row seat to watch the Downtown Development project as it works its way toward 7th Street. The project is expected to be finished by June 6, in time for the weekly Downtown Farmers’ Market.
