Schwartz showed leadership
on Clean Air-Clean Jobs Act
Congratulations to state Sen. Gail Schwartz for her smart leadership in passing the Colorado Clean Air-Clean Jobs Act.

This important legislation helps begin Colorado’s journey toward smarter energy choices, while remaining sensitive and responsive to local jobs and local economies.

These are times for smart responses to difficult questions, and Sen. Schwartz has shown us the way.

Amnesty is not solution
for illegal immigration
I just read that President Obama’s next big legislative push will concern illegal immigration. From what I have observed with the passing of the health care legislation, we, the people, will have nothing to say about what Congress does. It seems that the only time our elected officials are concerned with the population is at election time, when they want our votes to put them back in power.
The answer on illegal immigration is not a simple matter of granting amnesty and citizenship. President George H.W. Bush granted amnesty and citizenship to about 3 million illegal Mexican citizens, with the understanding that they learn English and a few other requirements. I wonder how many did?  Now we have somewhere between 8 million and 12 twelve million immigrants in the country illegally, wanting citizenship.
Would granting amnesty and citizenship to those who are illegally here, solve the problem and make all of those trying to come across our borders would stop and return home ? I don’t think so. I believe we would have 20 million to 30 million more illegal immigrants here expecting citizenship next time.

Hopefully, President Obama and Congress will not repeat President Bush’s mistake. However, it would guarantee the president’s re-election, with millions of grateful new voters.

I personally believe that granting citizenship to people who have come here illegally is a slap in the face to those who try to come here properly. I have no objection to those who come here with a proper, legal work permit.

Is Penry shortchanging
taxpayers with new job?
Am I the only one wondering how our elected official can be fulfilling his duties in the Colorado Senate and still be doing what appears to be a full-time job acting as campaign manager for a up and coming canidate?

Methinks the taxpayers of this county just might be getting short changed. I could be wrong.  If not, then this is information that should be stored in the back of the brain for future reference.

We honor the vile and
dishonor the honorable
Bill Forbes says it right in his letter regarding Hollywood as a predator of children by its spewing out of prurient trash and making millions on it.

It is interesting (spell that “disgusting”) how we forbid exposing children to the Ten Commandments for fear of doing them some kind of harm.  Yes, we do honor the vile and dishonor the honorable.
