Several thousand U.S. Marines, soldiers, airmen and sailors have died in Iraq and Afghanistan since the 9/11 attacks. Eight of them had local ties.

Killed July 21, 2004, after being wounded in action July 6 in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.

Killed Nov. 28, 2004, by small-arms fire in Ar Ramadi, Iraq.

Killed Aug. 19, 2006, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his convoy in Kunar, Afghanistan.
Army Cpl. Wade James Oglesby, 27, Grand Junction

Killed April 18, 2007, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in Taji, Iraq.
Army Sgt. Aaron B. Cruttenden, 25
161st Engineer Support Company, 27th Engineer Battalion, 20th Engineer Brigade
Killed Nov. 7, 2010, by small-arms fire from insurgents in Kunar Province, Afghanistan.
Note: He was promoted from corporal to sergeant posthumously.
