RSSEPA holds Denver public meetings on oil, gas rules
DENVER — Federal regulators are holding public meetings on air pollution standards for oil and gas operations as part of a settlement with two citizens groups.
The first meetings were in the Dallas area Monday. The Environmental Protection Agency is holding more meetings today in Denver.
The EPA agreed to hold the meetings in a settlement with WildEarth Guardians and the San Juan Citizens Alliance. The groups say existing air pollution rules for the oil and gas industry are outdated now that natural gas drilling is increasing and that technology for controlling emissions is advancing.
Industry groups have said voluntary efforts already are under way to monitor and reduce pollution.
