Expect traffic delays for Highway 13 work

Motorists should anticipate traffic delays of up to 15 minutes as work begins Monday on reconstruction of two miles of state Highway 13 near Meeker.

Heavy truck traffic, much of it related to oil and gas development, caused the Colorado Department of Transportation to decide to rebuild the road from the ground up from mile markers 25 to 27.

Crews also plan to widen shoulders, and add guardrails and new drainage pipes.

Work will occur Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through the end of this month, weather-permitting. It will then resume next spring, with completion expected the following November.

Alternating one-way traffic will result in delays of up to 15 minutes, CDOT says. The speed limit will be 35 mph through the work zone. No loads wider than 14 feet will be permitted during work hours.

Old Castle United Companies was awarded a $4.9 million contract for the project.
